This week we’re talking sports. Specifically, the Mayweather vs Mcgregor reality TV show that’s posing as a legitimate boxing match. Promotion is a native part of boxing, so this is not a condemnation of promoting a fight. However, the landscape seems to have gotten to a point where the promotion aspect supersedes the fight itself and for boxing fans, it’s a bit troubling. Does everything have to be a reality show to interesting? Then we moved on to another sport that is in the process of embracing the reality TV format: Football. We discuss the show Hard Knocks and our disgust with the current format of that show being more fluff than actual substance. Bottom line: Is it necessary to turn the NFL and boxing into reality tv shows to attract new fans or can the sports attract new fans solely on content?
