This week we’re talking about the 1st Amendment (actually, some of the ideas behind it). One of the “freedoms” the 1st Amendment is supposed to protect is the freedom of speech. In this episode, we question whether or not the freedom of speech actually exists and if so, for whom? Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Trump come out against ESPN and, more recently, the NFL over players doing what the 1st amendment calls “the right of the people peaceably to assemble”. He reacted (in what’s normal Trump fashion at this point) by calling the players S.O.B.s and recommending they be fired for the protests. The players and the internet reacted to that and #takeaknee (and also #taketheknee) was born. We discussed how we felt about this new adaptation of Kaepernick’s original protest and intent. We also discussed how we feel about the current state of free speech and how it affects us in aspects of our lives in some surprising ways.
