The #woke twitter gang has insomnia apparently, because they were “woke” enough to pick out the disparaging characteristics of a hair care ad on YouTube by Shea Moisture. If you haven’t yet seen it, the ad features a diverse set of women who (presumably) Shea Moisture now wants to participate in patronizing their LINE of products (emphasis on LINE because Shea Moisture has an entire line of products from shampoos to soaps to lip balms)! Black women are outraged because from their perspective, Shea Moisture owes black women their loyalty in exchange for their continued support. Do they have a point? Other may say, Shea Moisture is a business like any other and the objective is to be profitable. Hmm…they might have a point too. Let’s debate this.
