This week, we’re talking about the March for Our Lives march spearheaded by a group of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. that recently took place this past Saturday. While we both agreed this movement is an overall positive step, we couldn’t help but notice the vast difference in the coverage of this movement and the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, we want to be clear that this is not intended to be a competition between the two movements, but more of a critique of the hypocrisy of some of the (celebrity) supporters of this recent movement that were also silent during the near 6 year run (presently) of the Black Lives Matter movement. Whether you agree or disagree with Black Lives Matter as a movement, we felt it was necessary for us to highlight the disparity in media coverage, overwhelming support and overall reception between 2 separate movements: one roughly 2-3 weeks old and the other…going on 6 years old, and more importantly, discuss our thoughts on why we believe that is.
