This week we found a story that seems like it needs more attention than it has gotten so far (in our humble opinions).¬†According to Henderson, Nevada, police, Wendell Melton, 53, shot his son in the apartment were family members said Giovanni Melton stayed by himself, according to the station. Reporters there interviewed the boy’s former foster mother, Sonja Jones, by phone.¬†Jones told reporters that family members told her that the argument was over Giovanni’s sexual orientation. “He hated the fact that his son was gay. I’m sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son,” Jones said. As bad as that is as a stand-alone crime, we wanted to talk about some of the intersecting issues we found when reading this article that we felt made this much, much worse than what we saw on the surface. One obvious issue is homophobia. But many other underlying and maybe not so obvious issues popped out to us and we go through each in this episode.
