This week, we’re talking about names. More specifically, black children’s names. We wanted to make sure we had more than just our views on this subject, so we decided to invite our family in to discuss this one with us. If you’ve heard this show a few times, you know 12Kyle is basically a regular here, but this time he brought in his wife, Sherice, to discuss this question: In 2019, does it matter what we as black people name our children? Put another way: Do you think it is important to give your black child a “resume’ friendly” name to help ensure “success”, or do you think you can relax and name them whatever and they’ll be able to determine their own destiny regardless of name? As always, we all kept it 100 and discussed where we got our names and whether or not we’d consider naming children differently if we had to do it all over again.
